MISHIMOTO BMW F80 M3/M4 Performance Heat Exchanger, 2015-2020
The Mishimoto Performance Heat Exchanger increases cooling efficiency for the 2015–2020 BMW M3 and M4 equipped with the S55 air‑to‑water intercooling system. While BMW engineered a solid foundation for heat management, the factory unit leaves room for improvement in both durability and thermal capacity. Mishimoto expands on this design with a stronger construction, increased core volume, and enhanced cooling features.
All plastic components are eliminated in favor of full aluminum end tanks and ports for improved strength and long‑term reliability. The dual‑pass flow layout is retained to maximize heat transfer, while the core is expanded to fill the available space. The new 42 mm‑thick core extends 150 mm taller than stock, resulting in a 60‑percent increase in core volume and a 180‑percent increase in external fin surface area. These improvements deliver a measured 9°F reduction in global intercooler‑system temperatures compared to the factory heat exchanger.
Because the heat exchanger sits at the front of the cooling stack, Mishimoto equips the unit with a steel‑mesh stone guard to protect the fins from road debris. A variable fin pitch is incorporated into the lower 12 rows to support additional cooling for DCT‑equipped models. The Mishimoto Performance Heat Exchanger installs directly in place of the OEM unit and is backed by the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty.
