MISHIMOTO BMW F80 M3/M4 Intercooler, 2015-2020

BMW continues to set the benchmark for performance luxury vehicles, and the F8X generation is no exception. The S55 powering the 2015–2020 M3, M4, and M2 Competition features an advanced air‑to‑water intercooling system, but several areas of the factory design leave room for improvement. Mishimoto developed the Performance Air‑to‑Water Intercooler to strengthen these weak points and deliver increased durability, efficiency, and consistency under elevated boost.

The intercooler features full cast‑aluminum end tanks, TIG‑welded to a robust bar‑and‑plate core for maximum strength. Internal air diverters are integrated into both the inlet and outlet tanks to promote even distribution of charged air through the core. The core itself has been expanded in all dimensions, resulting in a 29‑percent increase in volume without requiring any installation modifications. A unique single‑pass internal fin layout optimizes heat transfer from charged air to coolant, improving overall cooling performance.

Testing with the Mishimoto Performance Heat Exchanger demonstrated a 16‑percent increase in airflow through the core and a 12°F reduction in intake air temperatures. Power gains averaged 11 whp and 8 wtq, with peak improvements of up to 31 whp and 10 wtq. The micro‑wrinkle black finish and refined header‑plate design provide a sleek, OEM+ appearance that complements the F8X engine bay.
